PHILADELPHIA – Two records were broken for the La Salle women's track team on the opening day of the Penn Relays Thursday. The Explorers set new marks in the 4x100-meter relay and the distance medley relay.

Ariel Mitchell, Amber Jenkins, Desirae Osley and Chidinma Matthew shattered the 4x100 mark, which was just broken last weekend at the Larry Ellis Invitational. The four ran the relay in 47.08 to finish 26th out of 71 entrants.

In the distance medley relay, Ifetayo Tyler (3:35.93), Jenkins (56.97), Makayla Eberly (2:14.81) and Grace Mancini (4:50.93) placed third among 14 teams. The quartet finished with a time of 11:38.62, beating the previous record that had been held since 2013.

Mitchell, Jenkins, Osley and Matthew qualify for the 4x100 Eastern Final, which will start on Friday at 1:02 p.m.
