PHILADELPHIA – Junior
Peyton Sorrels of the La Salle University baseball team was selected as the Philadelphia Big 5 Player of the Week on Tuesday. He is the sixth different Explorer to earn Big 5 weekly honors this season.
Sorrels had a breakout week for La Salle, hitting .500 over five games. He went 8-for-16 with two runs, two doubles, a triple and a stolen base for the week to go with a .556 on-base percentage and a .750 slugging percentage.
At LIU Brooklyn on Wednesday, Sorrels had a career game, going 4-for-5 with a double, a triple and a run scored. He also had two hits, a double and a run in Friday's contest at Rhode Island.
A transfer in his first season with the Explorers, Sorrels has come on strong over the last month after a slow start. In his last 15 games, the junior infielder has 18 hits and is batting .418 with seven runs, five extra-base hits, four RBIs and three stolen bases.
