GRAND LAKE, Colo. – The La Salle University women's lacrosse team earned academic honors from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) on Monday. The Explorers were recognized as an IWLCA Zag Sports Academic Honor Squad, while
Ashley Blanton and
Katie Stec were named to the IWLCA Zag Sports Division I Academic Honor Roll.
La Salle was one of 103 NCAA Division I institutions to earn the team accolade. To qualify for the prestigious honor, the team must have posted a team GPA of 3.0 or higher for the 2017-18 academic year. Blanton and Stec were among 462 Division I student-athletes who were honored. To be eligible for Academic Honor Roll status, student-athletes must be a junior, senior or graduate student, and have earned a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater.
An Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team selection this past spring, Blanton played in all 17 games, including 16 starts, and was third on the team with 30 ground balls while adding 14 caused turnovers during her junior season. The Issaquah, Wash., native owns a 3.88 GPA as a Communications major.
Meanwhile, Stec claims the IWLCA honor for the second consecutive year. She appeared in 16 contests as a senior defender this past season, making five starts and chipping in seven ground balls and five caused turnovers. A native of Glen Mills, Pa., Stec put together a 3.72 GPA while studying Integrated Science & Business Technology.
