PHILADELPHIA - La Salle University head field hockey coach
Kelly Broadway has named four captains for the upcoming 2018 season. Seniors
Mackenzie Karcher,
Megan Kida and
Logan Oh, and junior
Chloe Lucky will lead the Explorers into Broadway's first season at the helm.
"I am very excited to announce our four captains for the 2018 season," Broadway said. "Each one of these student-athletes all lead in different capacities and as a unit they all complement each other well. These four came back ready to go for preseason and have done a great job thus far."
Karcher returns as the team's leading scorer from last season, tying for fourth in the Atlantic 10 with 10 goals in 2017. She registered a hat trick in a 4-1 victory over Siena, and also had a pair of goals in contests against Rider and Richmond.
Kida started all 17 contests a year ago for the Explorers, one of just two returning players to have done so (
Emma Provost). The Oley, Pa. native has played in 51 contests over her three seasons at La Salle and was named an A-10 All-Rookie Team honoree in 2015.
The third senior captain for 2018, Oh ranked second on the team in assists last season. She tied for third on the team in shots with 25 and had four shots in a game on four separate occasions in 2017.
Lucky is the lone junior named captain after seeing action in all 17 games a year ago. She made five starts as a midfielder, scoring goals in victories over Siena, Davidson and Saint Francis U.
La Salle opens the season on Friday, Aug. 24 with a contest against Ohio at Hank DeVincent Field. The game, which will be broadcast live on ESPN+ (subscription required), is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m.
