PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle University women's basketball team welcomes four new faces to the Explorer family, announced head coach
Mountain MacGillivray. Joining the squad is junior transfer from Rutgers
Kate Hill, and freshmen
Kayla Spruill,
Shayla Sweeney, and
Janay Sanders.
"We are excited to have Kate, Janay, Kayla and Shayla joining us here at La Salle," MacGillivray said. "They add a great energy and work ethic to what we are trying to build. As a group, they bring a variety of skills but none more important than their unselfishness and team first attitude."
Hill comes to La Salle after two years at Rutgers. From 2016-18, she appeared in 30 games, making three starts, missing 21 games during her freshman campaign due to injury. Originally hailing from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Hill played four years of basketball at The Peddie School. During her final two seasons at Peddie, she averaged 12 and 13 points per game, aiding her to the Times of Trenton All-Area Team as a junior.
Joining the transfer are three true freshmen in Spruill, Sweeney, and Sanders.
Spurill played two years of basketball at the Western School of Technology and Environmental Science. Despite missing two years of basketball due to injury, she made the most of her two years on the court, being named First Team All-County in her freshman and junior seasons.
Sweeney comes to 20
th and Olney after playing four years at Pennsauken in New Jersey. Over the course of her career, she has scored more points than any other boy or girl to suit up in a Pennsauken uniform. Sweeney also holds the record for most points in a game.
Sanders joins the Explorers after a four-year career at Mallard Creek High School. The niece of former pros Dell Curry and Muggsy Bogues, Sanders was named Second Team All-State during her senior campaign while averaging 13 points per game. Adding to her accolades, she was an All-Conference selection in both of her final two seasons.
The Explorers take the court to begin the MacGillivray era on Tuesday, November 6 when they host Howard at Tom Gola Arena.
