PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle University field hockey team (3-1) suffered its first loss of the season to UC Davis (3-2), 4-3 in overtime on Saturday. The game saw the Explorers overcome a 3-0 deficit in the second half to force the extra session, before the Aggies got a shot off from the top of the arc and scored the game-deciding goal with just seven seconds left on the clock.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- UC Davis attacked first, firing off 5 shots in the first 10 minutes of play while Explorers goalkeeper, Emma Provost, remained steady in the net.
- The Aggies captured the lead at the 13:49 mark with a goal off a fastbreak and rose the score to 2-0 over La Salle off of a redirected long shot.
- Both Amber Blackshear and Megan Kida fired off shots at the start of the second half in an effort to catch up to the Aggies.
- UC Davis scored again, leaving the Explorers trailing by three with 30 minutes to go.
- Senior Logan Oh helped La Salle recover, pouncing in a rebound for La Salle's first score of the game.
- Freshman Willow Oh scored next, off an assist from sister Logan Oh, helping the Explorers to pull within one.
- Junior Amanda Chapin game through in the clutch, tying the game with just 44 seconds left with a goal.
- UC Davis fired a backhand over Provost in the last seconds of overtime for the win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- In cage, junior Emma Provost made 11 saves and remains at the top of the Atlantic 10 Conference in save percentage.
- Allen and Chapin led the Explorers with four shots each.
- Willow Oh's goal marked the first of her career.
