Women’s Basketball Welcomes Duquesne on Wednesday

PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle women's basketball team (3-16, 0-5 A-10) looks to rebound Wednesday night when the Duquesne Dukes (10-8, 4-1 A-10) visit Philadelphia. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. with the game airing on ESPN+.
 
SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:
  • La Salle has dropped its last seven games, most recently falling to Saint Joseph's, 60-57. The Explorers held the upper hand most of the game before the Hawks rallied in the final quarter. La Salle was led by freshman Shayla Sweeney and junior Shalina Miller with 14 points apiece.
  • At least one Explorer has scored a career high in points in eight of the last 11 games.
  • Over the last 14 games, La Salle has posted a +22 turnover margin, with six negative outings. Over that span, the team has collected 136 steals - good enough for 9.7 per contest.
  • The Explorers are first in the A-10 in both steals (177) and steals per game (9.3). The 177 steals has La Salle ranked 51st nationally.
  • The game against Duquesne will be the fourth of six consecutive games in the city of Philadelphia for the Explorers.
  • Sophomore Rayshel Brown is the team's active leading scorer with 7.9 points per game. Classmate Michelle Nicholls (7.6 ppg) and junior Shalina Miller (7.5 ppg) are the next top scorers.
  • On the glass, junior Shalina Miller (6.2) and senior Jeryn Reese (5.8) are topping the team in rebounds.
  • Junior Shalina Miller is ranked fifth in program history in blocks with 82 and currently leads the conference in blocks with 33 on the season. Her 33 deflections also has Miller ranked 39th in the nation. The Philadelphia, Pa. native also ranks second in the A-10 with 1.7 blocks per outing.
SCOUTING THE DUKES:
  • Duquesne enters Wednesday's game on a three-game winning streak, most recently taking down Richmond. The Dukes are 10-8 overall and 4-1 in the Atlantic 10.
  • Averaging 63.3 points per game, Duquesne is led by Kadri-Ann Lass with 11.6 ppg, followed by Julijana Vojinovic with 11.2 ppg.
  • Lass also paces the team with 6.7 rebounds per contest, while sitting second in the conference with 32 blocks and first in the league with 1.8 blocks/game.
  • The Dukes are allowing opponents to score 64.5 points per outing, with the opposition shooting 40.9% from the field.
THE SERIES:
  • Duquesne holds a slim 19-18 advantage in the all-time series that dates back to 1983.
  • La Salle dominated the first half of the contests, winning 13 of the first 16 contests. The Dukes have responded by taking 16 of the last 21 battles.
  • The Explorers' last win over Duquesne came in Pittsburgh in 2014, with their most recent home victory coming in 2007.
