PHILADELPHIA – After its win over #5 Dayton in the Atlantic 10 Quarterfinals, the #4 La Salle women's soccer team (11-7-1) is set to take on #1 Saint Louis (15-3-2) on Friday in a semifinal match. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m. EST from St. Louis, Mo. and will stream on ESPN+.
SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:
- La Salle is fresh off a playoff win over Dayton. In a total team effort, the Blue & Gold defeated the Flyers, 1-0, off a goal from rookie Emily Banashefski on a free kick from about 19 yards out. Junior Claudia Jenkins recorded her sixth shutout of the season with five saves.
- The Explorers are 13-7 all-time in the Atlantic 10 Championship and 13-6 under head coach Paul Royal.
- Royal has led La Salle to A-10 regular season titles in 2011, 2012, 2014, and 2017, while claiming tournament titles in 2012, 2013, and 2017.
- This will be the first postseason matchup between these two teams.
- Redshirt-senior Maci Bower was named Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team at forward and freshman Danielle Rooney claimed a spot on the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team.
- Bower leads the Explorers with 21 points on 10 goals and an assist.
- Junior Amirah Louketis is second on the team with 12 points. She's tallied five goals and two assists.
- Freshman Leah Giles leads the team in assists at four. The rookie also adds a goal to her stat line.
- Jenkins has made every start in net this season. The Kersbrook, Australia native has a 1.40 goals against average with 100 saves and a .787 save percentage. Jenkins also has six shutouts on the year.
SCOUTING THE BILLIKENS:
- Saint Louis defeated #8 Duquesne in the opening round, 5-0.
- Hannah Friedrich paces the team in points and goals with 10 and 24.
- Courtney Reimer is the next top scorer at 14 points with six goals and a pair of assists.
- Keeper Mary Niehaus leads the A-10 in goals against average (0.28), save percentage (.914) and shutouts (10).
LAST TIME THEY MET:
- Saint Louis took the regular season matchup, 4-1.
- The Explorers and Billikens battled to a scoreless half in the opening 45 minutes of the game.
- Saint Louis' Alyssa Seitzer scored back-to-back goals, one in the 54th minute and one in the 65th minute, to put the home team in command.
- Abbie Miller pushed the Billikens' lead to three during the 73rd minute before Sydney Walker converted in the 80th minute to put the game out of reach.
- La Salle got on the scoreboard with an own goal during the 88th minute of play.
