FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Former La Salle men's soccer standout
John McCarthy ('14) has signed with MLS club Inter Miami CF, the team announced this week.

John McCarthy, joins the club after spending the 2019 season with the Tampa Bay Rowdies in the USL Championship. With the Rowdies, he started 30 games in goal and notched 10 clean sheets in his lone season with the team.
The goalkeeper will return to the MLS after previously spending four seasons with the Philadelphia Union. During his time with the Union, McCarthy made 29 starts in net and totaled four shutouts. He has also played for the Bethlehem Steel and Rochester Rhinos in the USL, and was USL Goalkeeper of the Year and USL All-League First Team in 2014.
McCarthy set record after record during his La Salle playing days and was a three-time all-region selection. He owns school records for career saves (468), career shutouts (28), games played (74) and single-season shutouts (9).
Inter Miami CF will embark on its first season in the MLS in 2020. Former professional soccer star David Beckham serves as owner and President of Soccer Operations for Inter Miami CF.
