PHILADELPHIA -- Head coach
Katie Rhodes Abbott and her team will seek their second consecutive win to start the season on Saturday. In their quest to go 2-0 they'll welcome Manhattan to McCarthy Stadium; the Explorers are currently on a two-game winning streak against Jaspers, outscoring their opponent 29-16 over the last two seasons. First draw is at 11 a.m.
ABOUT THE EXPLORERS
- La Salle's first win of the Abbott era came via a 17-4 triumph over LIU - Brooklyn. The Explorers have the chance to open their campaign 2-0 for the first time since 2014.
- Sophomores Bridget Ruskey and Maddie Dachowski led the Explorers in scoring with six each. Dachowski added an assist and led the team in points scored.
- Thus far, sophomore Brittany Stevens is the top provider for the Explorers. She assisted on four goals against the Blackbirds. She is followed by a handful of teammates on two assists each--sophomores Hope Smith, Sarah Elias and Emily Johnston.
- Johnston, who last year broke a school record in draw controls with 72, currently sits at four on the season. That mark is good for second on the team behind Ruskey with five.
SCOUTING MANHATTAN
- The Jaspers fell in their first game against Vermont 10-7, their third-straight season dropping the opening game.
- Manhattan are paced by freshman Grace Lipponer with three goals, while senior Molly Fitzpatrick was the other Jasper with a multi-goal game against Vermont--she finished with two scores.
- Fitzpatrick is tied for the team lead in ground balls with four, while senior Emma Kaishian leads Manhattan in draw controls with five.
