Women's Lacrosse | February 25, 2019

PHILADELPHIA – La Salle looks to rebound this week after Saturday's loss to Manhattan at home. The Explorers managed four goals against the Jaspers, a stark contrast to the 17-goal opener vs. LIU – Brooklyn on February 16th. They'll have an opportunity to rediscover their form against Delaware on Tuesday and Mount St. Mary's on Friday.

ABOUT THE EXPLORERS
  • Despite the loss to Manhattan, the team's plus-eight goal differential (21 scored, 13 allowed) is their best through two games in five years. It's also the first time they've held their opponents to single-digit scoring over that span of games since 2015.
  • An important factor in La Salle's potential resurgence in front of goal is the form of sophomores Bridget Ruskey and Maddie Dachowski. The second-year athletes are tied for the team lead in goals with seven each. No one else on the team has more than two.
  • Don't discount the importance of service for Ruskey and Dachowski. Sophomores Brittany Stevens (four assists), Sarah Elias (two), Hope Smith (two) and Emily Johnston (two) have all been integral to La Salle's efforts in the attacking third.
  • Johnston has set the pace in draw controls yet again—she has eight on the season. Ruskey is second with five.
  • Senior Isabel Caddick and sophomore Molly Loughlin are tied for a team-best in groundballs with five each. Senior Courtney Shoults and sophomore Jordan Campbell are tied for the team lead in caused turnovers—both have three.
  • Loughlin has seen the majority of the time in goal. In 98 minutes of action, she has a 1-1 record, sporting a 6.10 goals against average and a 52.4% save percentage.
SCOUTING DELAWARE
  • The Blue Hens are 1-2 so far this year. They opened their campaign with a win at Temple but followed that with two straight losses at home against Penn and Rutgers
  • La Salle has not won against Delaware since 2013. Most recently, they fell 16-13 in the second game of last season.
  • Delaware is led by junior Christine Long with nine goals and an assist. Junior Sydney Rausa is second with six goals. Their top providers are junior Mia DeRuggiero and senior Caroline Farley with four assists each.
  • In net, sophomore Kate Brewster has played 176 of 184 possible minutes. She has a 1-2 record with a 10.54 goals against average and 51.6% save percentage.
  • Game time: Tuesday at 3 p.m.
SCOUTING MOUNT ST. MARY'S
  • The Mount started the year 2-1 with victories over Presbyterian at home and UMBC away, while most recently dropping a game at Army.
  • The Explorers have only met Mount St. Mary's once and have never played in Emmitsburg, Md. The lone matchup came in 2013 with the Explorers emerging victorious 12-6 at home in the first game of the season.
  • The Mount have one player with six goals, junior Kate Kinsella, followed by two players with five and another pair with four.
  • Freshman Jordan Groover has set the pace in draw controls with 11, nearly double the next closest teammate.
  • Senior Jillian Petito is 2-1 in net and has played 150 out of 180 minutes. She has a 47.1% save percentage and a 7.20 goals against average.
  • Game time: Friday at 7 p.m.
