Women's Lacrosse | March 4, 2019

PHILADELPHIA – Women's lacrosse has hit a rough patch early in its season with three consecutive losses to Manhattan, Delaware and Mount St. Mary's. La Salle has a chance to improve its 1-3 record and end the slide with games against Temple and Marist this week. The Explorers host the Owls in a city showdown Tuesday and then travel to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. for a Saturday afternoon matchup.

ABOUT THE EXPLORERS
  • Friday's 16-5 loss to Mount St. Mary's was the heaviest defeat of the season, but the -11 goal margin has been an outlier so far. In their other defeats, the Explorers have kept results close: -5 vs. Manhattan and -3 against Delaware.
  • Against the Mount, sophomore Emily Johnston not only found the back of the net for the first time in 2019, she also had the team-high with three goals on the night. She added two draw controls in a solid all-around performance.
  • On the season, sophomores Maddie Dachowski and Bridget Ruskey are 1-2 in goals with ten and nine respectively.
  • Johnston leads the team in draw controls with 13, while she and fellow sophomore Priya Kavuru are tops in caused turnovers with five each.
  • Sophomore Molly Loughlin has seen the bulk of time in net with 206 minutes played. She has a 1-3 mark thus far, recording 26 saves with a 42.6% save percentage.
SCOUTING TEMPLE
  • Temple is the first of two Philadelphia schools that La Salle will face this season—and the only game the Explorers will host. They play at Saint Joseph's in April.
  • The Owls are 1-4 this season with their only win coming against Rutgers. Temple also lost to Delaware by a three-goal margin to start the campaign.
  • La Salle's last win against Temple came in the second game of the 2014 season. The Explorers last home win against the Owls came a year earlier.
  • This season, Temple is led by juniors Maddie Gebert on 11 points (ten goals, one assist) and Julia Ryan with nine points (seven goals, two assists). Senior Amber Lambeth, who is third on points with eight (four goals, four assists), is also second in draw controls (19) and caused turnovers (seven).
  • In goal, junior Maryn Lowell has played the most minutes but holds a 0-4 record. She has tallied 23 saves on 72 shots for a save percentage of 31.9%.
  • Game time: Tuesday, 3 p.m.
SCOUTING MARIST
  • The Red Foxes are 2-2 on the season, with a better record on the road (2-1) than at home (0-1). They'll play one more game before facing La Salle-- a Wednesday match at UMass.
  • La Salle is 3-0 in program history vs. Marist with their most recent victory coming in a 12-9 home triumph last season.
  • Watch out for junior Samantha Mehalick on the offensive end of things. The North Brunswick, N.J. native has 16 goals this season—twice as many as sophomore Devon Connolly, who is second on the team with eight.
  • Speaking of stat differentials at the top, senior Hailey Wagner has recorded 37 draw controls through four games. At the time of writing, her average of 9.25 draw controls per game is tied for second in the nation. It's also 28 more than Connolly's next-best tally of nine.
  • Sophomore Delaney Galvin has recorded 32 saves in goal this season. She has a 2-2 record with a 38.6% save percentage.
  • Game time: Saturday, 1 p.m.
