Men's Basketball | April 2, 2019

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - After a successful stint with the Atlanta Hawks earlier this season, the National Basketball Association has come calling again for La Salle University men's basketball alum B.J. Johnson. Johnson, who played in six games for the Hawks, has signed with the Sacramento Kings for the remainder of the NBA season. The deal includes a non-guaranteed contract for the 2019-20 campaign.

In his NBA debut, Johnson posted 11 points on 4-of-4 shooting to help the Hawks to a 123-118 win over the Chicago Bulls on March 3. Over six games, the 6-7 guard/forward shot 50.0 percent from the field, 50.0 percent from three-point range while averaging 3.5 points per game (19.5 points per 40 minutes).

Johnson has spent the majority of his first professional season with the Lakeland Magic of the NBA's G-League. In 39 regular-season games, he averaged 15.4 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.4 steals per contest while shooting an impressive 44.4 percent from three. In a recent G-League playoff game against the Westchester Knicks on March 29, Johnson scored 20 points as the Magic advanced to the Eastern Conference finals.

In his two seasons with the Explorers, the Philadelphia native and Lower Merion High School product proved to be one of the top scorers in the city. As a senior, he averaged 20.8 points per game and was named First Team All-Philadelphia Big 5 and Second Team All-Atlantic 10. Johnson totaled 1,070 points at La Salle, one of 57 players in program history to surpass the 1,000-point plateau.

Johnson will remain with the Lakeland Magic as they continue their run in the NBA G-League Playoffs. The Magic will tangle with the Long Island Nets on Tuesday, April 2, with a chance to advance to the NBA G-League Finals. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., with the contest airing on ESPNU.
