READING, Pa. - La Salle graduate and Hall of Athletes member Diane Moyer joined a very prestigious group recently, as she was inducted into the Berks Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame. Moyer was one of eight individuals that comprised the Class of 2019.
The first female athlete ever to be inducted into La Salle's Hall of Athletes in 1985, Moyer was a four-year letterwinner in both field hockey and softball. She also lettered twice in basketball and was a two-year member of the swimming & diving program.
Recruited to La Salle on a basketball scholarship, the Muhlenburg High School product went on to star as a goalkeeper in field hockey. She helped the Explorers to a fifth-place finish at the AIAW Division II National Championships in 1979, paving the way for La Salle's national title the following year.
While still in college, she joined the United States national team and would go on to play for the 1980 and 1984 Olympic teams. The USA boycotted the 1980 Moscow games, but her 1984 squad won the bronze medal in Los Angeles.
Following graduation from La Salle in 1980, the United States Field Hockey Hall of Famer coached collegiately at Hollins, Villanova and Yale from 1982-1989. After completing her coaching career, she earned her Ph.D. from Temple and has been a professor of psychology at Cedar Crest College since 1996.
