PHILADELPHIA - La Salle University head field hockey coach
Kelly Broadway announced her team's 2019 schedule on Wednesday. The Explorers will begin their season at Hank DeVincent Field on Friday, August 30 with a matchup against Sacred Heart.
Following the contest against the Pioneers, a three-game roadtrip over an eight-day span starts with a game at local foe Temple on Sunday, Sept. 1. Road tilts against two more non-conference opponents -- Rider (Sept. 5) and Wagner (Sept. 8) -- lead into La Salle's second home game of the year on Sunday, Sept. 15 vs. Long Island University.
The Explorers return to the road for four more games over a two-week stretch, including their Atlantic 10 opener at Davidson on Friday, Sept. 27. Mixed in are trips to Towson (Sept. 20), Georgetown (Sept. 22) and Appalachian State (Sept. 29).
La Salle begins the month of October with three consecutive A-10 home games, beginning with a match with Saint Louis on Friday, Oct. 4. Two days later, Lock Haven comes to Hank DeVincent Field for a Sunday matinee, and Saint Francis U. rounds out the homestand on Friday, Oct. 11.
A game against another Philly rival, Villanova, on Sunday, Oct. 13, opens a four-game stretch away from home for the Explorers. Three of those games -- Oct. 18 at Richmond, Oct. 20 at VCU and Oct. 25 at Massachusetts -- feature teams who advanced to the Atlantic 10 Tournament a season ago.Â
The regular season concludes with a pair of home games, including a Senior Day matchup with Lehigh on Sunday, Oct. 27 and the regular-season finale against defending A-10 champion Saint Joseph's on Thursday, Oct. 31.
The Atlantic 10 Championship will be held Nov. 8-9 on the campus of the University of Richmond. The winner of the four-team tournament earns the league's automatic bid into the NCAA Championship.
