Shanahan Drills Game Winner to Lift Women’s Soccer Past Delaware

PHILADELPHIA – Senior Jess Shanahan fielded a pass inside the box that she drilled into the back of the net to lift the La Salle women's soccer team (4-2-1) past Delaware (4-3-0) on Thursday evening, 3-2. This marks the Explorers third straight win on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Late in the first half, Delaware scored on an Oliva Schuck goal during the 43rd minute of play to take a 1-0 lead into the break.
  • La Salle responded quickly after the start of the second frame as Shanahan sent a cross into the box for junior Amirah Louketis during the 47th minute. Louketis headed the ball into the net to knot things at one apiece.
  • About nine minute later, freshman Leah Giles took a free kick that found redshirt-senior Marcela Robinson in the box. Robinson finished to put La Salle on top, 2-1.
  • Delaware retaliated quickly as Lizzie Weimer struck to tie the game.
  • With less than 10 minutes to play, Shanahan scored the game-winning goal on assists from redshirt-senior Maci Bower and junior Jenna Soriano.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • La Salle scored a season-high three goals.
  • Junior keeper Claudia Jenkins (4-2-1) recorded seven saves.
