Claudia Jenkins had a career performance Thursday evening as the La Salle women's soccer team (2-2-1) defeated Florida Gulf Coast (1-2-0), 2-1. Explorer goals came off the foot of redshirt-senior
Maci Bower and junior
Amirah Louketis.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Eagles found the back of the net early on a rebound opportunity during the 12th minute. Jenkins made the initial save; however, FGCU's Louise Lillback sent the rebound shot in for a score.
- Just 10 minutes into the second half, Bower nearly knotted things at one apiece, however FGCU keeper Melissa Weck made a diving save.
- Bower scored the equalizer during the 62nd minute with a shot that was just inside the left post and out of reach from a diving Weck.
- Six minutes later, Louketis drilled a shot from about 16 yards out to the right of the net to give the Explorers their first lead of the game. Freshman Kayla Miller-People recorded the assist on the score.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Jenkins (2-2-1) recorded a career best 10 saves in the game.
- Both Bower's and Louketis' goals were their second on the season.
- Miller-People recorded her first career point with the assist.
- Collectively, the team had 10 shots with eight on net.
- Seven of the Explorers' 11 starters played all 90 minutes of the game.
