NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – After a dominant week, freshman
Claire Jacobs has been named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for her performances against UMass and St. Bonaventure, the league office announced Monday. Jacobs is the first Explorer to earn a weekly award from the Atlantic 10 since Shaquanna Edwards took the same award nearly two years ago (Feb. 12, 2018).
In a 1-1 week, Jacobs averaged 22.5 ppg and 4.5 rpg. The rookie shot 53.1% from the floor, 42.9% from long range, and 83.3% from the line. In the Explorers narrow loss to then conference leading UMass, Jacobs scored 29 points, the most ever by a La Salle freshman. In the Explorers' win over the Bonnies, she led the team with 16 points and corralled a career high eight rebounds.
La Salle returns to action on Thursday for an 11 a.m. tipoff at Richmond where the Explorers look to make it two wins in a row.
