Pat McCarthy and freshman
Franc Gamiz Quer of the La Salle University men's soccer team were recognized with year-end awards from the Philadelphia Soccer Six Tuesday evening. McCarthy was named to the Soccer Six All-Star Team, while Gamiz Quer was chosen to the All-Rookie Team.
McCarthy was second in the Soccer Six with 13 points in his final season. He finished tied for third in the Soccer Six with five goals and added three assists and two game-winning goals as well. The Explorers captain led La Salle back to the Atlantic 10 Conference tournament for the first time since 2016 as the team finished in sixth place after being picked 13th in the preseason poll.
The Cinnaminson, N.J., native was selected to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference Second Team and earned weekly honors from both the A-10 and Soccer Six on separate occasions this season. McCarthy becomes the third member of his family to earn Soccer Six All-Star status with La Salle, joining both his father, John, and brother, John.
Gamiz Quer becomes the 12th Explorer to be named to the Soccer Six All-Rookie Team, coincidentally joining
Pat McCarthy on that list. He also earned A-10 All-Rookie accolades this season and was named Soccer Six Rookie of the Week on Oct. 7. A defender from Sabadell, Spain, Gamiz Quer was an impact starter from the jump as a rookie. He started in all 17 games he appeared in and was the driving force behind La Salle's four shutouts on defense this season. Gamiz Quer finished his freshman year with six points on two goals and two assists along with a game-winning goal.
