Women's Track and Field | February 28, 2020
PHILADELPHIA - Just months after many members of the La Salle University women's track and field team won a league title in cross country, the Explorers will take the stage again this weekend at the Atlantic 10 Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships.
2020 ATLANTIC 10 INDOOR TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS
- WHEN: Saturday, Feb. 29 - Sunday, March 1
- WHERE: Mackal Fieldhouse - Kingston, R.I.
HISTORY AT A-10 INDOORS
- La Salle picked up two medals at last year's A-10 indoor meet and finished 10th in the team standings.
- Grace Mancini won gold in the 3,000 meters, while Ariel Mitchell took silver in the 60-meter dash.
- The Explorers posted back-to-back second place finishes in the team standings in 2005 and 2006 while also finishing second in 2002. La Salle's last top-5 finish was in 2008.
WHO TO WATCH
- With Mancini redshirting the indoor season and Mitchell graduated, there will be plenty of opportunities for the younger Explorers to leave their mark on the big stage.
- Senior Jessica Bryant leads the way for the Explorers in the jumps. Bryant has placed in the top-5 in the long jump in each of her three A-10 indoor meets, including a fourth place showing last year. She owns school records in both the long jump and triple jump, and she is currently ranked 11th in the A-10 in the triple jump and 13th in the long jump.
- At last year's championship, returners Liz Mancini, Desirae Osley and Makayla Eberly joined forces with Grace to take fourth place in the distance medley relay. Liz won the 3,000 meters at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational and ranks sixth in the A-10 in the event.
- Sophomore El Mancini has the third fastest 5,000 meter time in the conference, and she's also ranked eighth in the 3,000 meters. She also helped the Explorers win the A-10 cross country title in the fall by placing fourth individually.
- Freshman Jerika Lufrano was also a huge factor for La Salle in the fall, earning all-conference and Most Outstanding Rookie Performer. In her first season on the track, Lufrano has been impressive, picking up A-10 Rookie of the Week honors after her win at the Robert Elkin Invitational. She's ranked in the top 15 in the league in three events - fifth in the mile, seventh in the 3,000 meters and 13th in the 800 meters.
- Also, freshmen Christine Mancini, Amy Conboy and Olabisi Adams are among the many underclassmen who have taken strides this season. Christine is ranked 11th in the A-10 in the 800 meters, Conboy is 13th in the 5,000 meters and Adams is 18th in the long jump.
