Men's Track and Field | June 18, 2020

La Salle men's track & field and cross country alum Anthony Hawthorne had his final outdoor track season taken away, but now he turns his focus to qualifying for the Olympics as a Jamaican. Bo Wulf of The Athletic tells Hawthorne's untold story. (Available in the link above)

A 10-time Atlantic 10 medalist and five-time gold medalist, Hawthorne was set to go for his third straight 800-meter title at the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track & Field Championships this spring, but he never got the opportunity as COVID-19 forced the cancelation of his final season of competition. Still, Hawthorne remains motivated to achieving his life-long goal of becoming an Olympian with hopes of representing his father's native country of Jamaica.

Hawthorne isn't the only recent La Salle track and cross country graduate with Olympic ambitions. Nathan Gillis also has his eyes on the Olympics as he aims to represent his home land of Great Britain. Gillis talked about his goals with Matt Leon on KYW Newsradio back in March. (FULL STORY)

The COVID-19 pandemic affected many athletes, including women's track and cross country distance runner Grace Mancini. In a recent article in the Delco Times, Mancini told Terry Toohey about how the cancelation of the outdoor season correlated with her future plans at La Salle. (FULL STORY)
