PHILADELPHIA - With La Salle women's lacrosse's alumni game set for Saturday, Oct. 23, head coach
Katie Rhodes Abbott announced that the program will dedicate the event to the late Tiffany Grossi Johnson, '07, a beloved member of the La Salle lacrosse family.
"We are very excited to have our former Explorers back home at La Salle," said Rhodes Abbott. They've done so much for this program and continue to do so even after graduating. We are looking forward to celebrating them while simultaneously honoring the life of Tiff Grossi Johnson. I was lucky enough to speak to a few of her teammates and classmates, and they all spoke about how positively she impacted their lives. We are honored to be able to dedicate this day to her."
A four-year starter for the Explorers, Grossi Johnson appeared in 64 games in her time at La Salle. A versatile attacker, Grossi Johnson ranks in the top-10 in program history in assists (34), draw controls (82) and ground balls (108). However, as those that knew her know, her success on the field was just a small part of what made Grossi Johnson so special.
"Tiff was such a big part of our lives as we were becoming adults and figuring out who we were in this world," said Brittany Friedrich and Catie Borneman, teammates of Grossi Johnson from 2004-07 at La Salle. "We learned so much from her, from each other and are forever grateful for the place she holds in all of our hearts. Her blessings do not and have not stopped with her earthly passing in fact has just proven to us more and more how great of a human she was.
"Tiff lit up every room she walked into with her humor and friendly personality. She was kind, caring and didn't judge. Tiff was like a magnet, in fact even in her passing she still is. Her energy is unmatched on earth and now in heaven. Tiff was a magnet for all good people and great things. She just had this special and unique way about her. Her smile, her laugh, her voice. Her heart and joyful free spirit. Tiff attracted the best of people, the greatest friendships, a loving family, teammates like sisters and was just such a blessing to this world."
A teacher who graduated with Summa Cum Laude honors, Grossi Johnson is survived by her husband Joe and her children Grace and Joey. In her memory, Friedrich, Borneman, and women's lacrosse alumni created a college savings plan for her two children.
"Following her loss, hundreds if not thousands of people showed up to her funeral to not only mourn her death but to celebrate the incredible life she lived and to come together in love and light to honor her beautiful soul," added Friedrich and Borneman. "While her time with us here was too short, it was sweet for certain.
"Since her passing there have been fundraisers created in her name and scholarship funds for her children to honor her legacy as a teacher, coach and amazing woman. She has brought people together like never before, whether friends already or strangers alike. Our team has gotten closer than ever in the most recent months and there is nothing more beautiful we can say about Tiff other than she is one of the greatest blessings of all of our lives and she will continue to be forever until we all meet her again."
