Rowing Set for Head of the Schuylkill Regatta

HOSR Preview

Women's Rowing | October 29, 2021

PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle men's and women's rowing teams return to the Schuylkill River on Saturday afternoon, taking part in "America's Favorite Regatta" – the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta.

The 51st installment of the event showcases a diverse range of competition, from novice to professional and everything in between. The Explorers have eight boats set to take part in the two-day event, all competing on Saturday.

"The Head of the Schuylkill is one of the best events in American rowing," said Interim Head Coach Bill Manning, who will be at the helm of his first race as newly promoted head coach. "The Explorers are excited to open the 2021-2022 season on home water with such exceptional competition. HOSR racing is an opportunity to both test ourselves and evaluate our progress as well as have fun together competing."

The course expands 2.5 miles down the scenic Schuylkill River, and nearly 9,000 athletes crossed the finish line only seasons ago from the 180 competitors that participated in the first race over five decades ago. The event attracts up to 40,000 spectators, making it one of the nation's premier events at a historic location regarded as the home of American Rowing.
