PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle men's soccer team will complete its season-opening three-game road stretch when it visits Mount St. Mary's (Md.) on Thursday for a 5 p.m. non-conference match.
LAST TIME OUT
- The Explorers were dealt a tough 1-0 setback at Seton Hall on Saturday.
- La Salle doubled its opponent's shot total, 12-6, though the two were even at five shots on goal apiece.
- The Pirates scored the only goal of the game in the seventh minute and later went a man down on a red card in the 48th minute, but the Explorers couldn't take advantage.
- Junior Nigel Buckley took a game-high five shots, while freshman Junior Nare took two.
WERNER'S WAY
- Junior goalkeeper Brett Werner has looked sharp so far this season over all 180 minutes of action.
- Werner has allowed only two goals over the first two matches and has made eight saves, stopping 80 percent of shots on goal.
- He has yet to give up a goal in the second half and was named Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week after making four saves in the season-opening win over Villanova.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS
- Mount St. Mary's has already faced an Atlantic 10 Conference opponent this season, falling 1-0 at George Washington in its season opener on Saturday.
- It took a second overtime for a goal to be scored, with GW tallying the golden goal in the 102nd minute. Adam Sivitier made three saves in goal for the Mountaineers.
- Mount St. Mary's went 7-10 overall and 3-6 in the NEC last season and averaged 1.18 goals per game while surrendering 1.88 goals against per contest.
