PHILADELPHIA – La Salle lacrosse begins its 2021 season on Saturday with a noon matchup vs. Delaware in head coach
Katie Rhodes Abbott's third season at the helm of the Explorers. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
ABOUT THE EXPLORERS
- La Salle returns all of its key players from last year's squad. It has a wealth of experience with 11 seniors and five graduate students.
- Senior Bridget Ruskey will be at the center of every team's game plan. She finished with a team-high 17 goals and nine assists and the abbreviated 2020 campaign.
- Her 25 draw controls were second only to senior Emily Johnston with 32. La Salle's number 1 also ranked second on the team in goals with 16 and third in ground balls with 16.
- Other seniors to watch on offense are Annina Iacobucci (12 goals, six assists) and Allison Hunter (13 goals, three assists).
- The Explorers also have a veteran standout in net in senior Molly Loughlin. She finished with 36 saves last season.
- Looking at some of the younger contributors, sophomore Madi McKeee had a strong debut with nine goals and four assists in seven games. Fellow sophomore Tori Rolon also had a good start with six goals and an assist.
SCOUTING THE BLUE HENS
- Delaware is 1-1 this season, falling to Temple in its opener before rebounding against Delaware State.
- Junior Danika Swech is the team's leading goalscorer with six goals thus far, adding an assist. She's followed by Kendra Schweizer with five strikes.
- Senior Kate Bradford is the top provider for the Blue Hens' offense, dishing out five assists, while also contributing two goals.
- All three goalies have seen time this season with senior Kate Brewster logging 90 minutes with nine saves to 18 goals against.
