Steady Bats Pace Baseball in 10-6 Win over Delaware State

PHILADELPHIA – Senior Jack Cucinotta homered and reached base in all five of his plate appearances as the La Salle University baseball team came from behind to defeat Delaware State at Hank DeVincent Field on Tuesday, 10-6.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Delaware State jumped in front right from the start on a three-run triple by Tyler Cunningham to give the visitors a quick 3-0 lead.
  • But the very first batter for La Salle in the bottom of the first, Cucinotta, launched a solo home run to left field to quickly shift the momentum.
  • La Salle then came within a run, 3-2, three batters later when graduate student Ryan Guckin drove home junior Tatem Levins on a single through the left side.
  • The next inning, Levins drove in Cucinotta and sophomore John DeMucci on a double to deep right center to push the Explorers ahead, 4-3.
  • The Explorers added to their lead from there with an RBI single by junior Nick Di Vietro and an RBI groundout by freshman Will Binder in the third inning.
  • It continued in the fourth when Cucinotta scored on a throwing error and then Levins crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by Guckin to make it 8-3.
  • La Salle wasn't done yet, as sophomore Connor Coolahan scored on a wild pitch and Binder scored on a fielder's choice by sophomore Elijah Dickerson in the fifth, providing a 10-3 lead.
  • Delaware State got three runs back in the sixth inning before the game was ended after seven innings with the sun going down.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Cucinotta finished 1-for-1 with a homer, three runs, four walks and a stolen base. Levins went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI and two walks.
  • Freshman Nick Hammer got his first collegiate win in his debut on the mound, allowing just three runs on four hits with four strikeouts over 5.0 innings pitched.
UP NEXT
  • La Salle will hit the road for the first time on Saturday when it visits Bucknell for a doubleheader.
