Baseball Earns Doubleheader Sweep of Bucknell to Extend Win Streak to Three

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The La Salle University baseball team extended its winning streak to three with a pair of road wins at Bucknell on Saturday.

In the first game, senior left-hander Colin Scanlon tossed a one-hit shutout as the Explorers scored seven runs in a decisive fourth inning. Game two saw La Salle battle back from a 4-2 deficit with a run in the sixth and two more in the seventh to pick up a 5-4 victory.

Game 1 – La Salle 7, Bucknell 0 (F/7)
  • Scanlon and Bucknell's Brenden Tuttle were in a pitching duel early on as the game was scoreless after three innings.
  • La Salle then busted through with all seven of its runs in the fourth inning, piling up six hits in the frame.
  • Senior Tommy Toal started it off with a bases-loaded single to right field and fellow senior Jack Cucinotta was then hit by a pitch in the next at-bat with the bags still full to make it 2-0 Explorers.
  • Junior Tatem Levins followed that up with a two-run single to left center to put La Salle up by four runs.
  • Not done yet, graduate student Ryan Guckin added to the lead with a sacrifice fly to left before RBI singles from junior Salvatore Monticciolo and sophomore Dylan Maria made it a 7-0 game.
  • After allowing a triple and a walk in the first inning, Scanlon found his groove and didn't allow another hit or walk for the remainder of the game to secure the shutout.
Game 2 – La Salle 5, Bucknell 4
  • The Explorers got on the board first in game two, plating two in the third inning as Cucinotta scored on an error and then Levins scored on an RBI groundout by sophomore Elijah Dickerson.
  • Bucknell responded in the fourth with three runs to jump in front and then added another in the fifth to take a 4-2 lead.
  • Toal hit an RBI groundout to score redshirt sophomore Nick Di Vietro in the sixth to bring the Explorers within a run, 4-3.
  • Freshman Will Binder delivered an RBI single with the bases loaded to tie the game at four and then senior Alfonse Sadallah hit an RBI groundout to score Guckin and give the Explorers a 5-4 advantage.
  • Sophomore Dylan Maria came on in relief in the sixth inning and tossed three scoreless innings before handing the ball off to sophomore Jordan Morales, who closed it out with his second save of the year.
