Elissalt Shines in Doubleheader Split at George Mason

FAIRFAX, Va. – Freshman right-handed pitcher Frank Elissalt threw a gem in game two as the La Salle University baseball team split a doubleheader with the George Mason Patriots on the road Saturday.

The Explorers dropped game one, 8-3, but Elissalt shined in the second game while sophomore Dylan Maria and Elijah Dickerson went yard in a 7-1 victory.

Game 1 – George Mason 8, La Salle 3
  • Senior left-hander Colin Scanlon was in a pitching battle with Jared Lyons in game one as the game was scoreless over the first four innings.
  • George Mason broke the scoring open with a two-run triple in the fifth and then made it 3-0 with a run in the seventh.
  • La Salle stormed back and got the offense going in the eighth to tie the game at 3-3.
  • Junior Tatem Levins hit an RBI single to score senior Alfonse Sadallah and then bases-loaded walks by redshirt sophomore Nick Di Vietro and graduate student Ryan Guckin made it a tie ball game.
  • The Explorers left the bases full after that though and the Patriots responded with five runs in the bottom half to make it 8-3.
Game 2 – La Salle 7, George Mason 1
  • Elissalt was wheeling and dealing all afternoon, starting by striking out the very first batter of the game. After giving up two hits in the first inning, Elissalt kept the Patriots without another hit until the seventh inning.
  • Maria, who pitched in relief in game one, gave La Salle all the momentum in the second inning with a three-run blast to center field to open up a 3-0 advantage.
  • The Explorers scored three more runs in the fourth on an RBI triple by Sadallah, an RBI bunt single by sophomore John DeMucci and an RBI single by Levins, making it a 6-0 edge.
  • Dickerson then put the cherry on top with a solo homer to right in the seventh as the Explorers rolled out to a 7-0 lead on the road.
  • Mason would add a run in the eighth, but redshirt freshman Colin Yablonski struck out two in the ninth inning and sealed the victory.
