PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle University men's soccer team will wrap up the regular season on Saturday when it hosts Massachusetts at McCarthy Stadium. The game will kick off at 7 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
LAST TIME OUT
- The Explorers kept their Atlantic 10 Championship hopes alive with a 2-0 shutout win at Saint Joseph's on Wednesday.
- After a scoreless first half, junior Nigel Buckley scored broke through with a goal on a header off a feed from classmate Charlie Collins for a 1-0 lead.
- Freshman Scott Beeks then put the game away with his third goal of the season in the 88th minute to make it 2-0.
- La Salle limited Saint Joseph's to just six shots overall and one shot on goal as freshman goalkeeper Cam Hall only needed to make one save, giving the Explorers their second shutout victory over the Hawks this season.
THE ATLANTIC 10 RACE
- This year, the Atlantic 10 Championship will be condensed down to just a four-team tournament.
- The league is broken down into three divisions – Central, North and West. The winner of each division will make the tournament along with one wild card team.
- The Explorers are in the North Division with UMass, Fordham, Rhode Island and Saint Joseph's.
- La Salle (2-2-1 A-10), UMass (2-1-2) and Fordham (2-0-2) all have two wins apiece in league play in the North Division battle. Dayton and Saint Louis each have three league wins, while seven different teams have two wins in the battle for the final playoff spot.
SCOUTING UMASS
- The Minutemen enter the weekend at 6-1-2 overall, 2-1-2 in the A-10 and 2-0-1 on the road.
- UMass finished in a 1-1 tie in its last game at Fordham on Saturday.
- The Explorers and Minutemen also ended in a 1-1 draw in Amherst, Mass. Back on March 17. Sophomore Isak Sedin scored the lone goal for La Salle.
- Alec Hughes leads the team with 14 points on six goals and two assists, while Ben Shepherd has two goals and six assists and Filippo Begliardi Ghidini has four goals.
- In net, Marvyn Dorchin has been brilliant with a 0.93 goals against average and a .800 save percentage to go with three shutouts.
