Explorers Continue North to Face Niagara

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. – The La Salle women's basketball team continues its road stretch in the northeast at Niagara this Saturday, Nov. 12 at 5 p.m. The game will be available live on ESPN+.
 
SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:
  • La Salle wraps up its three-game series on the road at Niagara this Saturday, Nov. 12 at 5 p.m. The Explorers enter the contest at 1-1 after defeating Sacred Heart just two days prior, 69-48.
  • The Explorers took an early lead off a Kayla Spruill three pointer and never looked back leading by as many as 23 points in the third quarter.
  • Newcomer Charity Shears continues to lead the offensive efforts for La Salle recording a team-high 12 points in the contest. La Salle put together an impressive 6-of-8 performance from the 3-point range in the third quarter that was spearheaded by the fifth-year transfer who went 4-of-8 in the frame.
  • La Salle has now had two consecutive games with players in double-digits with Shears being the only two to achieve the mark in both games. Molly Masciantonio, Kayla Spruill and Amy Jacobs have all reached 10-plus in at least one contest this season.
  • The Explorers have been strong at the rim pulling down at least 30 boards in each contest. La Salle has not allowed either of its two opponents to out-rebound them. Six players are averaging at least 3.0 rebounds per game.
  • La Salle shot a season-high 42.9% from the field and 42.3% from the three range in the contest.
  • Molly Masciantonio continues to serve as lead assister on the squad averaging 5.0 assists per game. She also leads the team from the field shooting 60.0% (6-of-10).
  • Emma Egan and Amy Jacobs lead the steal effort for the Explorers totaling 1.5 steals per game.
  • Every member on the bench saw action in the contest. 11 of the 14 players on the roster have seen action in both games this season.
SCOUTING THE PURPLE EAGLES:
  • Niagara hosts La Salle for its home-opener following a 64-55 victory over Loyola (Md.) on Monday, Nov. 7. The Purple Eagles trailed following the opening half, but outscored Loyola an impressive 29-5 in the third to take the lead for the win.
  • Aaliyah Parker led the scoring effort in the season-opener with 17 points. Angel Parker and Maddy Yelle recorded double-digit scoring in the contest. Angel Parker served as the squad's leader in steals last season breaking the season record for steals with 116.
  • The victory marked the second-straight season Niagara opened its season with a win over Loyola.
  • The Purple Eagles were picked three in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference preseason poll after leading the league last season in points per game, 69.9.
  • Niagara averaged 13 steals last year to lead the MAAC and opened their season-opener with 12 steals in the game.
  • The Purple Eagles forced 33 turnovers while tallying 32 points from turnovers in the opener.
SERIES HISTORY
  • This is the tenth-overall meeting between the Explorers and Purple Eagles. La Salle leads the series 9-0.
  • The teams last met in Tom Gola Arena last November when La Salle snapped a single-game skid with an 83-71 win over the Purple Eagles.
  • The 83 points La Salle scored in the contest against Niagara marked the team's highest scoring game all season.
  • The Explorers largest margin of victory is set at 39 points achieved on Dec. 28, 1996.
