PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle men's and women's rowing team announced team captains on Monday morning, as Kate Vasey, Lily Henshaw, Jimmy McInerney and Shawn Donohue have been voted by the team to represent the program.
 
"I'm thrilled to announce Kate Vasey and Lily Henshaw as our 2021-2022 captains," said women's coach Kelsey Franks. "These women embody the resilience, leadership, warmth, compassion and empathy that is going to help create a deep, supportive team. From the moment I met Kate and Lily, it was clear they are deeply committed to bringing out the best in every member of this team. I'm grateful for their leadership and excited to see how they help shape the culture of this growing team of powerful young women."
 
A sophomore rower from Medford, Oregon, Vasey was a member of the Women's Novice 8+ that took silver at the Dad Vail Regatta in 2021. The silver finish was the first time the women's team garnered a podium finish for the first time in two decades. Vasey was also 5-seat in the Women's Champ 8+ this fall at the Head of the Schuykill Regatta.
 
Also in her sophomore season, Henshaw hails from Longmeadow, Massachusetts. Henshaw was also a member of the team that took silver in the Women's Novice 8+ at the Dad Vails in 2021. Finding success alongside her teammate, Henshaw was the 6-seat at the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta in the Women's Champ 8+.
 
"I am very excited to announce Jimmy McInerney and Shawn Donohue as our men's rowing captains for the 2021-2022 season," said men's coach Ivo Krakic. "These two seniors on the team have faced a lot of adversity through the past couple of years; however, they persevered and are some of the most dedicated athletes on the team. Jimmy and Shawn are incredible leaders both at practice and in the classroom. Both will be key driving factors in making our boats fast this spring season. Shawn is an ISBT (Integrated Science, Business and Technology) major with a current GPA of 3.02 and is aiming for Dean's List in the spring. Jimmy is dual majoring in History and PPE (Politics, Philosophy and Economics) with a 3.88 GPA. Jimmy has been on the Dean's list since his first semester at La Salle. I believe Jimmy and Shawn are great role models for our young team and I am pleased to welcome them as Captains."
 
Donohue was a member of the Men's 2^nd Varsity 8+ at the 2021 Dad Vail Regatta. The senior from Hatboro, Pa. was also stroke seat of the Men's Champ 4+ this fall at the Head of the Schuylkill.
 
McInerney came to the Explorers from Pittsburgh, entering his senior spring for La Salle. He was a member of the Men's Varsity 8+ at last year's Dad Vails and was 2-seat in the Men's Champ 4+ this fall at the Head of the Schuylkill.
