PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The La Salle women's basketball team gets a chance at redemption as it takes on the Duquesne Dukes for the second time this season. This time, the Dukes will travel to Tom Gola Arena on Wednesday, Feb. 23 at 6 p.m. in the Explorers final home contest of the season.
SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:
- La Salle (14-11, 7-6 A10) returns back to Tom Gola Arena for the final time this season after a 73-65 victory over the Saint Louis Billikens on Saturday, Feb. 19.
- The Explorers took a 3-point lead after the first minute of play and never looked back generating as much as a 22-point gap in the second quarter of the game. La Salle sunk 16 3-point buckets in the contest, the most made in a single contest this season. Five Explorers ended the night in double-digits marking the first game since 2019 that five players have reached the mark in a single game.
- The Explorers continue to lead the conference in free throw percentage shooting 75.9% from the line this season. La Salle has won the turnover battle in 18 of its contests, including the last six straight, this season and currently sits second in the league in turnover margin (2.68). The squad ranks fourth in assists averaging 14.48 per game.
- Kayla Spruill recorded her 19th game in double figures this season including her sixth-straight. Spruill went 6-of-12 from the field including 4-of-8 from deep and 1-of-2 from the line. The contest against Saint Louis marked the fifth this season in which the senior has sunk four 3-point buckets in a game. She currently leads the conference and ranks third in the nation for her performance from beyond the arc shooting 47.2%.
- Claire Jacobs put together her 10th game in double figures with 13 points. Her three 3-point buckets in the contest marks the ninth time this season she has sunk at least three buckets from deep in a contest.
- Jaye Haynes and Amy Jacobs both landed in double figures against the Billikens with 12-points each. The game marked Haynes' third consecutive game and 10th overall with 10+ points while Jacobs' four 3-point buckets tied her career-high.
- Masciantonio continues to be the leading helping hand for the Explorers averaging 4.7 assists per game. She currently ranks first in the league and 13th in the nation in assist to turnover ratio (2.57). She led the team against Saint Louis with seven assists and added 12 points of her own.
SCOUTING THE DUKES:
- Duquesne (11-15, 6-8 A10) enters the contest off a pair of wins against Richmond and St. Bonaventure. This is the second-consecutive road game for the Dukes having traveled to Olean, New York on Sunday for the 99-75 victory over the Bonnies.
- The 80-point and 99-point efforts marks the first time the Dukes have scored 80+ points in two consecutive games since 2019.
- The Dukes converted a program-record 19 three-pointers in the victory over the Bonnies. Fatou Pouye led the charge with a team-high 27 points on 10-of-16 shooting including 5-of-7 from the long range and seven rebounds. Pouye currently ranks fifth in the league with a 47.4 field goal percentage.
- Libby Bazelak dropped 21 points on 7-of-9 from the field including a perfect 5-of-5 effort from the 3-point range. She dished out nine assists in the contest. Bazelak is seventh in the league in assists per game (3.9) and assist-turnover ratio (1.60). She is one of only 25 players in the nation to record a triple-double this season and is the only one from the conference to do so.
- Tess Myers matched her career-high with six 3-point buckets. She posted 18 points and a career-high nine rebounds. She leads the A-10 and ranks fifth nationally with 3.23 3-point field goals per game. Myers has converted a league-leading 84 3-pointers on a league-high 207 attempts.
- The 99-point effort against the Bonnies was the second-most points in a single game under head coach Dan Burt and ties for fifth-most in program history.
SERIES HISTORY:
- The Explorers trail the Dukes 20-30 in the all-time series having dropped the contest against Duquesne in Pittsburgh earlier this season. The loss came after the Explorers ended the Dukes' run in the A-10 tournament last season.
- A victory in Tom Gola Arena on Wednesday would mark the first win for the Explorers on their home court since defeating Duquesne at home during the 2006-07 season. Since that game, La Salle has only won three contests against the Dukes out of 16 meetings between the two teams.
