ATLANTA - La Salle University assistant women's basketball coach Boo Abshire is one of 30 individuals to be named a "Thirty Under 30" honoree by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association for the 2021-22 season, it was announced on Monday.

The WBCA Thirty Under 30 program was created to recognize 30 up-and-coming women's basketball coaches aged 30 and under at all levels of the game. Each honoree has exemplified their involvement in community service, mentorship and impact on others, professional manner, and attitude and professional association involvement.

Abshire is now in her fourth season as an assistant coach at La Salle, and has been a part of a coaching staff that has transformed the Explorers program. This past year, La Salle finished with its best Atlantic 10 record since the 1996-97 season and earned the fifth seed at the A-10 Championship - also their best seeding since the 1997 tournament.

"Boo is an amazing leader, and her leadership abilities as player have translated perfectly into her role as a coach," head coach Mountain MacGillivray said. "She is well organized, connects with the student athletes and has a great feel for the game. Her blend of competitiveness and compassion make her an exceptional coach, and this honor is very well deserved."

A four-year letterwinner at Quinnipiac, playing for MacGillivray and QU head coach Tricia Fabbri, Abshire finished her career as the program's all-time leader in assists with 704 and led the Bobcats to an 84-30 (.737 winning percentage) during her career. As a sophomore, Abshire led her team to a perfect 18-0 record in Northeast Conference play and led the team to the first of two NCAA Tournament appearances over her four years. She also set a NCAA single-season record for assist-to-turnover ration (4.15) as a senior.

"Congratulations to these 30 coaches who have distinguished themselves so early in their careers," said WBCA Executive Director Danielle Donehew. "The WBCA is pleased to recognize this up-and-coming talent in our coaching family. We celebrate their effort on the basketball court as teachers and equally applaud the extensive role they play in impacting the lives of their student-athletes."
