Lacrosse Welcomes Villanova to McCarthy Stadium on Wednesday

PHILADELPHIA - Playing their third game in seven days, La Salle lacrosse will stay at McCarthy Stadium on Wednesday, March 9 when they host Big 5 rival Villanova at 4 p.m.

SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:
  • After starting their season with a pair of one goal victories, the Explorers (2-4) enter Wednesday's game on a four-game skid. 
  • La Salle is coming off its second-consecutive two-game week, dropping games to Lehigh on Wednesday, March 2 before falling to Manhattan on Saturday, March 5. 
  • The Explorers held the edge in shots in both losses to the Mountain Hawks and Jaspers, and have averaged 26.5 shots per contest through six games. 
  • Emily Johnston leads the La Salle offense with 14 goals, 16 points, 24 draw controls and 14 ground balls. 
  • Rolon joins Johnston in double-figures with 13 goals, holding an impressive 7-for-8 mark on free position shots. 
  • Midfielder Maddie Henderson leads La Salle with 11 caused turnovers, while ranking in the top-two in draw controls (16) and ground balls (14).
  • In goal, Kelli McGroarty and Julia Dellaratta have split time for the Explorers. Dellaratta has made all six starts, totaling 31 saves with 48 goals allowed, while McGroarty has appeared in five games, making 29 saves while conceding just 22 goals. 

SCOUTING THE WILDCATS:
  • Villanova enters Wednesday's game with a record of 1-5, most recently falling to No. 14 Rutgers. 
  • The Wildcats picked up a win over George Washington, and has dropped games to William & Mary, No. 22 Temple, Cornell, and Saint Joseph's. 
  • Nova ended the 2021 season with a record of 6-11, including an 11-10 win over La Salle. 
  • This season, the Wildcat senior trio of Caroline Curnal, Alexa Tsahalis, and Libby McKenna lead the offense. Curnal leads the team with 15 points and 13 goals, while Tsahalis adds 14 points and McKenna adds 11. 
  • BIG EAST Preseason Defensive Player of the Year Sydney Frank anchors the VIllanova defense that has secured 91 ground balls and forced 37 turnovers. .
