PHILADELPHIA – La Salle women's lacrosse is set for their final home game of the 2022 season before hitting the road once again, as they will host No. 14 Massachusetts on Thursday, April 14 at 1 p.m. at McCarthy Stadium before heading to George Mason on Saturday, April 16 at 12 p.m.
During warmups against UMass, La Salle will wear t-shirts in partnership with Morgan's Message, an organization that strives to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health within the student-athlete community. For more information, visit morgansmessage.org.
SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:
- La Salle (4-10, 2-4 A-10) enters Thursday's in seventh place in the Atlantic 10 conference with three games remaining.
- The Explorers picked up their second conference win of the season last Friday on the road against St. Bonaventure 12-11 before falling to Duquesne on Sunday, 18-9.
- Maddie Henderson had a huge week for the Explorers, racking up five goals, two assists, seven ground balls, 11 draw controls and five caused turnovers. This season she ranks in the top-two on her team in goals (20), points (24), ground balls (31), draw controls (34), and caused turnovers (20).
- After adding seven more goals last week for La Salle, Emily Johnston has now extended her team-high goal total to 34. The preseason all-conference selection also leads her team in assists (7), ground balls (31), and draw controls (57) while matching Henderson with 20 caused turnovers.
- Six-different Explroers have tallied double-digit goals in 2022, as Tori Rolon (14), Maddie Dachowski (13), Kiki Venza (12), and Claudia Steinmetz (10) join Henderson and Steinmetz.
- On defense, Liza Dellaratta has tallied 11 caused turnovers and 28 ground balls.
- In goal for La Salle, Kelli McGroarty and Julia Dellaratta have split time for La Salle, combining for a goals-against average of 12.58 with 151 total saves.
- In total, the La Salle offense has scored 8.57 goals per game while allowing 12.71 per contest.
- The Explorers have been efficient on clear attempts in 2022, converting at a .862 (206-239) pace compared to .854 (228-267) for their opponents.
SCOUTING THE MINUTEWOMEN:
- UMass (12-2, 6-0 A-10) enters Thursday's game riding a nine-game winning streak to sit atop the Atlantic 10 conference standings.
- The Minutewomen beat previously conference-unbeaten Richmond 15-9 in their last outing to take first place away from the Spiders.
- The high-powered Minutewomen offense has racked up 243 goals in just 14 games while allowing only 132.
- Five players for UMass have recorded at least 50 points in Kendra Harbinger (50), Alex Finn (42), Kelly Marra (36), Olivia Muscella (30), and Julia Smith (30).
- Muscella also leads her team with 43 draw controls. Brinley Anderson leads the Minutewomen with 20 caused turnovers and Gina Carroll added 27 ground balls.
SCOUTING THE PATRIOTS:
- George Mason enters Saturday's game with a record of 3-11, including 2-5 in A-10 conference play.
- The Patriots fell in their most recent outing to Duquesne, dropping an 18-13 decision to the Dukes.
- Olivia O'Brien leads the conference in draw controls with 87, good for 24th nationally.
- Shannon Tuozzo leads Mason with 40 points, coming on 28 goals and 12 assists. She also leads her team in ground balls with 20.
- Meghan Deehan has handled the bulk of minutes in goal for the Patriots, holding a save percentage of .394 with 154 goals allowed and 100 saves.
