PHILADELPHIA - La Salle University head field hockey coach
Martu Loncarica has announced the addition of Kelly Marks to her coaching staff. Marks, who has been a member of the United States Women's National Team, brings extensive high-level playing and coaching experience.
"Kelly is a top caliber athlete who was involved with the USA National Team for many years," Loncarica said. "Not only has she had an impressive playing career, but she's managed to make several comebacks on the playing field after having three children -- a special welcome to Lily, Oliver and Caden!"
"The intangibles that Kelly possesses are what excites me the most about her," Loncarica continued. "She is incredibly resilient, selfless, and determined to leave her mark on the program. She's the perfect fit for La Salle field hockey and we couldn't be more lucky to have her!"
A local product from Owen J. Roberts High School in Pottstown, Pa., Marks (formerly Kelly Bonner) spent two seasons at Old Dominion and was a member of a Monarchs squad that earned a No. 1 national ranking in 2011 and advanced to the NCAA Final Four in Louisville, Ky., falling to eventual national champion Maryland.
The following year, Marks transferred to the University of Albany where she spent three seasons and was a part of two America East championship-winning teams. She played in 60 games (51 starts) for the Great Danes, registering 14 goals and four assists. As a senior, Marks helped UAlbany to its first-ever Final Four appearance.
From there, Marks went on to a standout professional career that included selections to multiple Women's National Teams. In 2019, she earned her first cap against China during Pro League competition. She went on multiple tours throughout Europe and South America while also developing a passion for coaching.
"I am thrilled to join such a talented and knowledgeable coaching staff and to work with a group of extremely driven and hard-working young women," Marks said. "Coach Martu's passion, values and vision for this program are unparalleled, which has already made a significant impact during her first season. With so much support from the La Salle athletic administration and families, there is no doubt that this program will be successful. I am excited to become a part of the La Salle field hockey family and cannot wait to get started."
In 2016, she started her coaching career as a club coach for AGH Field Hockey Club and then took over as head coach of WC Eagles in 2019. In 2020, she moved into a volunteer assistant role with Rider University, helping the Broncs to a 2020 Northeast Conference championship and a matchup with UConn in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Most recently, she served as Director of Field Hockey at the Centercourt Club and Sports Lawrence, where she created and redesigned programs and teams in New Jersey.
