NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The La Salle field hockey team has been picked fifth in the preseason poll and sophomore
Sofia Pla has been named to the Preseason All-Conference Team, the Atlantic 10 Conference announced Tuesday.
La Salle totaled 29 votes in the poll, which is voted upon the conference's eight head coaches. Saint Joseph's, the defending A-10 Conference champion, was chosen as the favorite with five first-place votes. Massachusetts, VCU and Richmond round out the top five.
Pla earned her first selection to the Preseason All-Conference Team. She is joined by 10 other student-athletes across four of the conference's institutions. Pla earns the honor after being selected All-Conference Second Team and All-Rookie Team following the 2021 season. The defender made an immediate impact for the Explorers last year recording eight goals and two assists all while anchoring the La Salle backline in her rookie season.
La Salle's season kicks off this Friday, August 26
th against Bryant at 4 p.m. marking the first of a five-game road stretch before the home opener against Rider on Sunday, September 11 at 12 p.m.
