CHARLOTTESVILLEE, V.a. – The La Salle men's soccer team falls to 1-3-2 after a tough 5-0 loss to the University of Virginia (4-2).
How it Happened –
- Freshman goalkeeper, Tino Kneis, faced Virginia pressure early and often as he defended two corner kicks just over four minutes into the match.
- A foul on the Explorers, resulting in a penalty kick, would give the Cavaliers a 1-0 lead, 11 minutes in.
- Axel Ahlander would then find the back of the net to make it 2-0 Virginia.
- Before the end of the half the Explorers would defend off two more corner kicks.
- Aidan O'Connor scored in the 53rd minute of the contest to put Virginia up three.
- After Virginia scored to make it 4-0, the Explorers put consistent pressure on the Virginia defense and totaled six shots in the second half.
- A final penalty kick for the Cavaliers makes it 5-0.
Inside the Numbers –
- Tino Kneis totaled nine saves on the night, his most in a game as an Explorer.
- There were 27 total fouls on the night, 17 by La Salle and 10 by Virginia.
- The Explorers put three shots on goal in the second half.
- Virginia had eight corner kicks, opposite to La Salle's one.
