PHILADELPHIA – After a 2023 season that included the most wins for a La Salle program since 1981 and a conference tournament appearance for the first time since 2011, the Explorers are getting their just due.
Martu Loncarica has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference's Coach of the Year after leading the team to a 13-6 overall record, 5-2 in conference. The 13 wins marks the most by a field hockey team at La Salle since the 1981 season. The regular season success helped set up the Explorers with a bid into the A-10 Conference tournament for the first time since the 2011 season. The team was seeded fourth in the championships.
Standout rookie from Buenos Aries, Argentina
Clara Larripa, was awarded with All-Conference First Team after her breakout season. The freshman was able to sit atop the A-10 in goals scored with 12. One of her biggest moments in the season came against VCU where she scored the game-winning goal in double overtime to help seal the Explorer's chances at making it into playoffs. Larripa led the team with 12 goals, 27 points, and started in every game played in this year.
Senior
Tatum Johnson had a repeat season in 2023 of her outstanding performance in 2022. She was honored with A-10 All-Conference First team and All-Academic team for the second season in a row. The Downingtown, Pa. native was second on the team in goals scored with 10, which put her in the top-five in conference. In a two-game span this season Johnson totaled five goals, two against Dartmouth and three against Saint Louis in a 6-1 rout of the Billikens.
The final award for the Explorers this season was given to
Emily Streib as she was named to the A-10 Conference All-Academic team. Streib started 15 games in goal for La Salle and finished the season with 70 saves and a 0.693 save percentage. Her best performance of the year came against cross-town rival Villanova. The team was lifted by a late goal to give them the lead, but would not have been in that position if not for the senior goalie's nine saves throughout the game. Streib finished the season having shutout teams on three separate occasions.
