Women’s Golf Heads to MAAC Championships

After posting first runner-up finish in school history at Quail Valley, Explorers look to end season on high note at Disney

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — The La Salle women's golf team will head down to the Sunshine State to play in the MAAC Championships this weekend at Disney's Palm Golf Course.
 
The MAAC Championships are a three-round, 54-hole tournament that begins Friday and will have the final round of the competition on Sunday being broadcasted live on ESPN+ at 9:30 a.m.
 
The Explorers will be competing in a women's field that includes University of Albany, University of Dayton, Fairfield University, Loyola Chicago University, Mount St. Mary's University, Niagara University, Quinnipiac University, and Siena College.
 
LA SALLE WOMEN'S GOLF NOTES
  • La Salle is coming off its best finish in school history in a tournament, placing second at the Quail Valley Invitational on Tuesday. The Explorers earned their second-place finish in the five-team field after posting a total score of 95-over-par 671 to finish behind Mount St. Mary's (+45). The Explorers' runner-up finish marked the fourth time in program history that they finished in the top three as a team in an event.
  • The Explorers saw Kayleigh Zeman, Sydnie Leavery and Paige Cerminaro each place in the top 10 at the Quail Valley Invitational.
  • Zeman finished tied for sixth after shooting a 17-over-par 161. The junior carded a 6-over 78 in Monday's opening round, then shot an 11-over 83 in Tuesday's final round.
  • Leavery placed eighth while playing as an individual for La Salle. The freshman shot an 18-over 162 after posting an 8-over 80 on Monday and a 10-over 82 on Tuesday.
  • Cerminaro had the second-best score for the Explorers in the team competition, as she carded a 21-over 165 to place ninth. After shooting a 12-over 84 on Monday, the sophomore rebounded with a 9-over 81 in Tuesday's final round.
  • The Explorers also competed in the Prospect Bay Intercollegiate Prospect Bay Country Club's par-72 course. this season on April 1 and 2. The Explorers ended the two-day tournament in 15th place after combining for a 671.
  • Hannah Basler led La Salle at Prospect Bay with a 22-over-par 166 to finish in a tied for 56th. The junior shot an 81 in the opening round and closed with an 85 in the final round.
  • This spring, Zeman leads La Salle in scoring average with an 82.5. Basler is second on the team at 84.0, Cerminaro is third at 84.5, and Leavery and freshman Nina Okenkova are fourth on the squad at 86.25.
  • The Explorers were ranked seventh in the MAAC Preseason Coaches Poll, tying their highest ranking in program history after also being ranked seventh in the preseason conference poll in both 2018 and 2019. 
LA SALLE AT THE MAAC CHAMPIONSHIPS
  • La Salle will be competing in its sixth MAAC Championship this year.
  • The Explorers' best finish at the MAAC was eighth in 2017-18.
  • Last year, the Explorers finished in ninth with a three-day total of 1,042 (+178).
  • Basler, Zeman, and senior Megan Ruffing are the only Explorers with MAAC Championship experience. Basler tied for 29th in last year's tournament after shooting a three-day total of 244 (+28) and placed 39th in 2021 with a 219 (+39). Zeman tied for 36th last year after posting a 253 (+37), while Ruffing finished in 44th after totaling a 286 (+70). Zeman and Ruffing also tied for 40th in 2021.
  • The best finish by a La Salle golfer at the MAAC Championship was Mary Daclan's 25th-place finish in 2019.
