PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The La Salle field hockey team has released its schedule for the upcoming 2023 season. The 18-game schedule is set to start on Aug. 25 and features seven home contests.
"As we look ahead to this year's schedule, we can't help but feel excited about the strong opposition we will be facing. Our team has undergone a remarkable transformation, both in terms of our playing style and culture," said head coach Martu Loncarica. "We are prepared to take on fresh challenges with a positive outlook, always striving to improve ourselves.
The changes we've experienced have brought us closer together as a cohesive unit, and we're eager to see how we will perform against tough competition. While the road ahead may not be easy, we approach it with determination and a commitment to giving our best.
Our pursuit of excellence drives us to constantly raise our standards, aiming to become the best versions of ourselves as individuals and as a team. We believe that these challenges will test our limits and help us grow even stronger."
The Explorers open the year on Friday, Aug. 25 on a short road trip down Broad Street to face Temple in a 6 p.m. matchup. La Salle will return to action that Sunday, Aug. 27 with another quick trip to Drexel for a noon start.
The Explorers will then take on three consecutive home contests, beginning on Friday, Sept. 1 against Longwood, followed by Rider on Sunday, Sept. 3 and wrapping up with Fairfield on Friday, Sept. 8. La Salle will have another single-day break before traveling to Villanova on Sunday, Sept. 10 for another midday matchup at noon.
The Explorers will then start conference play, hosting Lock Haven on Friday, Sept. 15. La Salle will then face four consecutive road games, starting with a non-conference contest against Rutgers at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 17. The Explorers will then take on two conference foes, traveling to Massachusetts on Friday, Sept. 22 for a 3 p.m. contest followed by Davidson on Friday, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. The Explorers wrap up the road stretch at Queens University on Sunday, Oct. 1 at noon.
La Salle will return to Philadelphia to host A-10 rival Richmond on Friday, Oct. 6 followed by a non-conference matchup against Dartmouth on Sunday, Oct. 8.
Once again, La Salle will face a grind on the road with another four consecutive away games, starting with back-to-back conference matchups against Saint Louis on Friday, Oct. 13 at 1 p.m. and VCU on Friday, Oct. 20 at 3 p.m. The Explorers remain in Virginia to take on William & Mary on Sunday, Oct. 22 at 11 a.m., then will return to Philadelphia to pay a visit to cross-town rival Saint Joseph's on Friday, Oct. 27 at 3 p.m.
The Explorers wrap up the regular season hosting Providence on Sunday, Oct. 29.
The Atlantic 10 semifinals are set for Nov. 2 followed by the championships on Nov. 4. Both games will be hosted by VCU.
