HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Explorers struck first early in the game and tried to build up a lead against a difficult Richmond squad.
  • An early foul on the Spiders allowed Claudia Steinmetz to break the scoring open with a free-position shot, and she converted.
  • Steinmetz tallied her 11th goal of the season with this score, giving the Explorers an early 1-0 lead.
  • Richmond would respond with two goals of their own, but that lead did not last long. Again, on the free-position, La Salle made the most of it, the goal this time coming from Katie Johnson.
  • Johnson tallied her 22nd goal of the season with this shot, leading the team.
  • Goals were hard to come by for the remainder of the first quarter thanks to stout defense by both sides. Richmond's Ali Susskind would score with 49 seconds remaining, however, to get the Spiders on top 3-2 going into the second frame.
  • La Salle would go three-for-three on free-position goals in this game thanks to a second goal from Steinmetz. This would tie the game at three goals apiece.
  • Colleen Quinn would quickly rack up three points in a five-minute span. She scored two goals and assisted on another to get the Spiders on top by three.
  • Mackenzie Click would respond soon after the sixth Richmond goal, and bring La Salle within two goals with 5:08 remaining in the half.
  • The Spiders would add on three more goals before the expiration of the half, Richmond leading 9-4.
  • The third quarter is one the Explorers would like to forget, as is the theme for a majority of the second half. Richmond would rip off six unanswered goals in the third, bringing their lead to 11.
  • Johnson would break the scoreless streak for La Salle with yet another free-position conversion for La Salle. This, however, would be the last goal for the Explorers on the day.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Two Explorers tallied multi-goal today, Claudia Steinmetz (2) and Katie Johnson (2). Mackenzie Click added one more to her season total today, as well.
  • La Salle did a good job not committing fouls on the defensive end of the field. Richmond only had one free-position shot, opposite La Salle's five.
  • Draw controls proved to be a positive for the Explorers today. They had they advantage 13-9 by the end of the game. Grace Lord and Mackenzie Click each collected five draw controls, leading the Explorers.
  • Mary Babbage started in goal for La Salle and finished with nine saves. Brooke Nelson took over in the fourth quarter, stopping two shots.
