Women’s Soccer Hosts City Six Rival Saint Joseph’s

PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle women's soccer team will host arch-rival the Saint Joseph's Hawks on Sunday afternoon. The Explorers are looking to make it three straight victories over the visitors from Hawk Hill.

SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS
  • La Salle dropped its first game in over a month on Thursday at Rhode Island as the Rams took the victory, 1-0.
  • The Explorers are off to a strong start to the 2024 campaign, with a 5-2-2 record. La Salle is undefeated at home.
  • The Explorers rank third in the Atlantic-10 in goals (19) and goals per game (2.1). La Salle has also been moving the ball effectively, with its 21 assists tied for first in the conference.
  • Ricshya Walker and Haley Gschrey are part of a seven-way tie for fourth in the Atlantic-10 in goals. Three games ago against Temple, Walker scored three goals for the first La Salle hat trick since 2022.
  • Gschrey and Justyce Hollenbach are tied for the team lead in assists (4) and are fourth in the conference in the category.
  • The Explorers are led by head coach Paul Royal, who enters his 22nd season at the helm. Royal is one of the top coaches in the Atlantic 10, earning five trips to the NCAA Tournament during his tenure and has sent 16 players to the professional ranks. He was voted A-10 Coach of the Year for the fifth time last season.
  • Royal has amassed 216 wins in his head coaching career. He ranks 18th among active D1 coaches in wins at a single institution.
 
SCOUTING THE HAWKS
  • Saint Joseph's is 4-2-2 on the season. After four straight wins to begin the campaign, the Hawks are winless in their last four. They have drawn the last two matches.
  • Emily Hanarahn leads the Hawks with three goals. Natalie Nevins is tied for fourth in the league with four assists.
  • Jess Mannella is one of the only coaches in the A-10 who has been at a single school longer than Royal. She is in her 25th season leading the Hawks.
