Fourth Quarter Comeback Not Enough As Lacrosse Loses To Rhode Island

Box Score Kingston, RI – La Salle women's lacrosse played its final midweek match of the season, dropping the game by a score of 18-12 to the Rhode Island Rams on the road Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Rams scored two quick goals to start, before senior attacker Katie Johnson responded with two of her own to tie it with 11:48 left in the first quarter.
  • Junior attacker Emi Waldron converted on her first free-position shot of the season to put La Salle up 3-2.
  • Rhode Island scored the next few goals, followed by a strike by redshirt junior attacker Alana Lathan to close the deficit with 2:17 remaining in the quarter.
  • Emi Waldron scored with nine seconds left in the first to keep La Salle within five.
  • In the second, the hosts scored the first two, before Johnson got her third 3:14 into the quarter.
  • Lathan scored her second about a minute and a half later.
  • The hosts built its lead to six as the teams entered the halftime break.
  • After the break, the Explorers could not find the back of the net in the third quarter, as the Rams increased its lead to ten.
  • The fourth quarter was almost all La Salle, as the team scored five of the six goals in the frame. Waldron scored two more, Lathan added another, and junior midfielder Sam Klein got on the scoring sheet with two goals
  • Following Klein's goal in the minute, the hosts saw the rest of the game out.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • The La Salle offense was efficient on its shots, scoring on 75% of its shots on goals.
  • Junior goalie Mary Babbage recorded her 200th career save as an Explorer in the first quarter.
  • Sophomore goalie Brooke Nelson made a milestone as well, making her 100th career save early in the fourth quarter.
