Women’s Soccer Game at Rhode Island Postponed Due to Rain

KINGSTON, R.I. – For the second time this season, rain and poor field conditions have forced a cancellation on the women's soccer pitch.  The Friday night matchup between La Salle and Rhode Island has been postponed; no makeup date has been announced yet.

The two teams made it through almost 20 minutes of action in a driving rainstorm before the referees and head coaches decided the field was un safe for playing and the two teams retreated for shelter.

After about an hour delay, the coaches and officials met on the field and decided the surface was un safe and the game was postponed.

The Explorers (12-0-1, 4-0-0) have already had a game called due to rain this season, all the way back on August 19 in what was supposed to be the season opener against Rutgers.

It will be determined later in the year whether or not this game will be made up depending on where La Salle and Rhode Island sit in the Atlantic 10 standings towards the end of the season.

La Salle will now turn their sights towards a huge Sunday afternoon contest in Amherst against Massachusetts.  The winner of Sunday's contest will hold first place in the conference standings.  Opening kick against the Minutemen is set for 1 p.m.  Live stats and video will be available on GoExplorers.com.
