La Salle Earns Top Seed For A-10 Women's Soccer Championship

Single-Elimination Tournament Begins Thursday

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- La Salle will be the top seed for the 2011 Atlantic 10 Conference women's soccer championship, which will be played Thursday, Nov. 3 through Sunday, Nov. 6 at Dayton's Beujan Field.

The Explorers clinched the top seed Friday with a tie against Fordham to improve to 7-0-2 in conference play with 23 points. La Salle, ranked 17th by Soccer America, is 15-0-3 overall, having allowed just six goals this season. The Explorers will have a first-round bye and will open the tournament in the semifinal round.

Richmond will be the second seed for the championship by virtue of a 1-0 win over Massachusetts Sunday. The Spiders finished 7-1-1 in league play for 22 points and are 13-4-3 overall. UR will also have a bye through the quarterfinals.

Dayton clinched the third seed with a 3-1 win over Charlotte Sunday. The Flyers finished with 21 points and a 7-2-0 A-10 record and 16-3-0 overall. Championship host Dayton and sixth-seeded Charlotte play again in the second quarterfinal game Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Charlotte has a 4-4-1 record in league play for 13 points and are 7-9-4 overall.

Fourth-seeded Massachusetts enters the tournament with 19 points and a 6-2-1 Atlantic 10 record. The Minutewomen are 12-4-2 overall and will play fifth-seeded St. Bonaventure in Thursday's first semifinal at 5:00 p.m. The Bonnies finished the A-10 regular season at 4-2-3 with 15 points and are 9-6-4 overall.

La Salle will play the lowest remaining seed (No. 4, 5 or 6) in Friday's 5:00 p.m. semifinal. Richmond plays the highest remaining seed (No. 3, 4, or 5) in the second semifinal at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The semifinals will take a day off before playing the championship game Sunday at 1:00 p.m. The winner of the title game will earn the Atlantic 10's automatic berth to the NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament.

Tickets for the A-10 Tournament will be $6 for adults, $4 for youth under 18 and senior citizens and $3 for Atlantic 10 students with ID. Three-day passes are also available for $15.
