PHILADELPHIA – La Salle redshirt senior goalkeeper
Melissa Sanger is featured in this week's
Sports Illustrated Faces In The Crowd, which hit newsstands on Wednesday. Sanger is the second Explorer in the past 11 months to be recognized in Faces In The Crowd joining Ryan Richter of the men's soccer team and now a member of the Philadelphia Union of MLS.
Sanger has anchored a La Salle defense that is the only Division I squad in the country, men or women, that has not allowed a goal this season. She leads the nation in goals against average (0.00) and save percentage (1.000).
She has helped the Explorers to their best start in school history (10-0-1) and a #25 national ranking by Soccer America.
Earlier this season, Sanger set the career shutout record at La Salle and now has 21 clean sheets during her time in the Blue and Gold. She also holds the single season school record with 11 shutouts.
Her 1000 consecutive minutes without a goal is sixth all-time in NCAA history.
La Salle will host #19 Dayton on Friday at 7 PM at McCarthy Stadium. Students are encouraged to packthemac to help create a home field advantage. The first 100 students receive a free packthemac t-shirt and free food will be available pre-game for students, while supplies last.
