Sanger Named Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Performer Of The Year; McVicker Also Honored


PHILADELPHIA - La Salle senior goalkeeper Melissa Sanger has been named the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Performer of the Year, in voting conducted by the sports information offices of the 28 institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area. Sanger was joined on the Academic All-Area team by classmate Jourdan McVicker.

Sanger finished the regular season with an unblemished 15-0-3 record in goal and only allowed six goals all season long.  She is ranked third in the nation in GAA  (0.287) and fourth in save percentage (0.918).

The Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year, Sanger was also a first team all-conference and second team all-region selection. She graduated in May with a bachelor's degree in marketing and has a 4.0 GPA as a graduate student in the MBA program. Sanger was also named to the Capital One Academic All-District and Academic All-Atlantic 10 teams.

McVicker started every game for La Salle at the holding midfielder position and helped anchor a defense that allowed only seven goals all season and posted the fifth longest shutout streak in NCAA history that spanned over 11 games.

She owns a 3.93 GPA as a marketing major and was named to the Capital One Academic All-District  and Academic All-Atlantic 10 teams.

The La Salle women's soccer team won the A-10 regular season championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history. The Explorers won a program-record 15 games and were nationally ranked for most of the season.
