PHILADELPHIA -
Tennis is not the only activity that keeps Hunter Selman busy on campus. Today’s “Getting to Know” features the sophomore tennis player, who is also heavily involved in community service on campus. As a community service scholar, Selman is charged with coordinating La Salle’s Police Athletic League outreach program.
On the courts, the Langhorne, Pa. native has primarily played No. 5 and No. 6 singles for the Explorers this season. The team will travel to St. Louis for the Atlantic 10 Championships later this week.
1. What has been your favorite moment as a La Salle student-athlete?
Traveling with the team is absolutely my favorite time as a La Salle student-athlete. The trips help our team bond and we have a lot of laughs.
2. When did you start playing tennis?
I started playing tennis in my junior year of high school. It wasn’t too long ago which proves that with a little hard work, anything is possible.
3. What are some of your other campus activities?
I am a community service scholar, so I do about 10 hours of community service a week. I coordinate one of our service programs on campus – the Police Athletic League. I also enjoy being a resident assistant and play drums for the University mass every Sunday night. I am fortunate to be in the business scholars co-op program in the business school.
4. What are your career aspirations?
Music is a big passion of mine. I would like to work as a marketing director for a company that makes musical instruments/equipment.
5. If you could play doubles with any one person, who would it be and why?
David Ferrer, he is currently #6 in the world. He is classy guy and he works his butt off on the court.
6. What do you like best about La Salle?
I love how friendly the faculty and students are. La Salle is a second home.
7. What’s on your iPod right now?
Salvation is Here by Hillsong
8. Who do you look up to/inspires you? Why?
I often recall this verse when I’m in a tough match, it always inspires me:
“But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” - Isaiah 40:31
9. Favorite away match memory?
Our spring break trip to Orlando, Florida. Nobody sings better Karaoke than the La Salle Men’s Tennis Team.
10. Best advice you have ever received?
Listen to your parents. Haha.
