NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - La Salle University senior
Rogelio Gonzalez capped his career as an Explorer with postseason recognition from the Atlantic 10.
Gonzalez, who was a part of a historic victory at Atlantic 10 Championships as a sophomore, played No. 1 singles as a junior and senior and was named to the league's second team.
The Plano, Texas native earned five wins at the top singles spot and matched that feat in doubles action, where he paired with classmate
Connor Merrill at No. 1.Â
The biggest win of the year for Gonzalez came in a road match against Fordham, when he beat eventul First Team All-Atlantic 10 member Fabian Mauritzson in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.Â
At A-10 championships in 2021, Gonzalez squared off against Mauritzson once again and battled back from a first-set loss to go up a break in the second set before the match was halted.
VCU's Lleyton Cronje was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Tennis Most Outstanding Performer, while Dayton sophomore Connor Bruce has been named the Most Outstanding Rookie Performer.
